Trans Youth Virtual Advocacy Training

April 25, 2020

 

Presented by Stand with Trans in partnership with the HRC. Participants:

  • Learned how to advocate in your school, your community, with your legislators and more.
  • Understood the impact of talking to the media and the power of your voice.

This training made possible by a generous grant from the Arbonne Charitable Foundation. Locally sponsored by OutFront Kalamazoo.

Share the Love 2020

Youth and families came together to enjoy a taco bar and desserts, face painting, music, activities for ages 5+, and more.

Tweens and teens also were able to participate in the kickoff of the “How to Do Life: Taking Care of YOU” program with yoga and mindfulness with Caleb, and a discussion and support chat with Nick.

5th Annual Empowerment Workshop: CONNECT

Our annual workshop brought together trans/gender expressive youth and their parents/caregivers in an opportunity to come together as a community. From drag queen story time for the young children to workshops to inspire and educate youth and adults, we achieved our goal to CONNECT.

 Our second annual family Share the Love offered food, games, facepainting and more at the Orchard United Methodist Church in Farmington Hills.  A Stand with Trans family event for all ages, thanks to our sponsoring partner, Ally Financial.

4th Annual Empowerment Workshop: I Am Enough

Stand with Trans hosted an all-day event for trans youth, parents/caregivers of trans individuals and young gender expansive children. The workshop was held in Farmington Hills, MI at the Orchard United Methodist Church.

Family Picnic in the Park 2018

The 3rd Annual Stand with Trans Picnic was held on August 12 at the Royal Oak Memorial Park. Zingerman’s Community of Businesses and Achatz Pies provided baked goods. Stand with Trans grilled hot dogs and everyone brought something to share. And, the Meadowbrook Ice Cream truck arrived and gave out 150 delicious frozen treats.

Understanding the Gender Expansive Young Child

Speaking presentation including experts in mental health and pediatric endocrinology; Dr. Dan Shumer, pediatric endocrinologist, Sara Wiener, LMSW, director of Mental Health Services within Child & Adolescent Gender Services at Mott Children’s Hospital, and Dr. Antonia Caretto, clinical psychologist specializing in gender-related issues. Hear from parents of trans youth and their experiences.

Stand with Trans rallied on the Michigan Capitol steps in Lansing in support of Gavin’s case with the Supreme Court. Gavin was fighting for the right to utilize the school restroom that best fit his gender identity.
