  • Most jobs in the food or beverage industry will require you to obtain non-slip shoes before your first day. Some restaurants offer a program called Shoes for Crews or reimburse you for this expense. If you’re not offered that option, you can find affordable non-slip shoes in stores like Wal-Mart and Meijer for under $50. It’s important that the shoes are actually labeled as being non-slip–wearing the wrong shoes in a commercial kitchen could not only cause you to become injured, it could potentially void any workers comp claims if you have a slip and fall at work. If you work in an environment that’s harder on your non-slips (for example, working around more grease), expect to replace these once or twice a year.
