Participants needed for transgender and nonbinary affirming study!

Hello, my name is Louis Lindley and I am a white queer trans researcher with the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

We are conducting phase 3 of research study to develop a measure of trans community pressures. Currently, no measure exists about the pressures present within TNB communities about the ways you “should” behave or think about gender. As such, we are asking for your help to create these measures in ways that are true to our experiences. If you choose to participate in this research, you will be asked to complete an online survey, which should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. We hope to use this information to better understand how TNB individuals respond to experiences of distress. The questions that we will be asking include topics related to TNB community pressures, depression and anxiety, gender dysphoria, and alcohol use. It is important to study these questions because research has indicated that external stressors can impact mental health of TNB individuals. We are asking specific questions about some of these stressors to provide more in-depth explanations of how stress contributes to mental health.

If you are at least 18 years old and identify as transgender, nonbinary, and/or with a transgender history and are interested in participating, please visit: tinyurl.com/TNBM1

Participation is completely voluntary, and your answers will remain anonymous. There is no monetary compensation provided for this survey.

If you have any questions or comments please email me (Louis Lindley, he/him) at llindley2@wisc.edu or my advisor, Dr. Stephanie Budge (she/her), at budge@wisc.edu

Transgender Research Informed Consent (TRICON) Disclosure

Objective: The objective of the current study is to develop a measure of trans community pressures.

Primary Investigator: The PI is Louis Lindley (PhD student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison) under the supervision of Dr. Stephanie Budge (Professor of Counseling Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison).

Trans Involvement: Measure items were developed with the help of two focus groups comprised of TNB individuals. The items were also reviewed by researchers who work in transgender studies and most of whom hold TGNB identities as well as by trans focused community organizations. Additionally, the PI is a queer trans man.

Institutional Review Board: The IRB at the University of Wisconsin-Madison approved this study.

Target population: Any individual over the age of 18 who identifies as nonbinary, transgender, or with a transgender history is asked to participate in this study. As always, we hope to have a diverse sample in terms of race and SES and will do targeted sampling, if necessary, to ensure we are not only reporting on the experiences of white, middle to upper class TGNB individuals. While we include participants from all over the world, the survey is only available in English.

Compensation: There is no cost to participant in the study nor are there any travel requirements. There is no monetary compensation provided for this survey.

Accessing Results: The result of this study will be published in a peer reviewed journal. While we cannot guarantee that the article will be open access, we will post an accessible link to Louis Lindley’s research gate once it is accepted and published.
