Queer Youth Nutrition

Nutrition Information for Queer Youth

About – Our Queer Youth Nutrition (QYN) program is an exciting new initiative for LGBT+ identifying youth (ages 13-24) who live, work, or attend school in Detroit to broaden their cooking/nutrition knowledge and gather to break bread with their peers.

The program operates on a monthly schedule and consists of a Nutrition Class, Cooking Class, and two “Family Dinners” – our group meal and sober gathering space. It is 100% free for qualifying participants and we can assist with transportation for those who are unable to attend without assistance. All sessions take place at Corktown Health (1726 Howard) in Detroit typically each Thursday (refer to calendar for any changes) from 6:00-8:00PM.

Gender Expansive Identities

Take a deeper dive outside the binary to learn about identities that go beyond male and female genders.

Overall issues often overlooked

Nutrition is crucial for queer and trans youth to support physical growth, manage body image issues tied to gender dysphoria (often leading to disordered eating), and address higher risks of food insecurity and mental health struggles from stigma; tailored, gender-affirming nutrition care recognizes food as identity expression and helps navigate needs related to hormone therapy, promoting overall well-being.
