LGBTQ+ High School Students Invited to Upcoming Online College Fair
Metro Detroit, MI – Applying to college is daunting for all high school students and even moreso for those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, or queer. That is why Stand with Trans is hosting a free Virtual College Fair for LGBTQ+ high school students on Wednesday, April 27th from 6-8 p.m. ET.
LGBTQ+ teens from any state, their parents and even high school personnel are welcome to attend this free event by registering at StandwithTrans.org/college-education-fair while space is available.
Admissions representatives from a dozen colleges and universities, both in and around Michigan, will be online to answer questions and provide information about things such as LGBTQ+ support services, scholarships, financial aid, gender-inclusive spaces and much more.
Participating schools will include: Alma College, Antioch College, the College for Creative Studies, Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Henry Ford College, Michigan Technological University, Northern Michigan University, Oakland Community College, Wayne State University, Western Michigan University and more.
Stand with Trans, a Michigan-based non-profit organization that empowers and supports transgender youth and their loved ones, is hosting this LGBTQ+ Virtual College Fair for the second year in a row.
“We received great feedback from the community last year,” said Stand with Trans Founder and Executive Director Roz Keith.
“Probably the most meaningful (part) was hearing from LGBTQ students who attended the universities,” said one parent who joined the event in 2021. “I think that probably meant the most to my high schooler — being able to see kids like him(self) in college and thriving, with a plethora of LGBTQ resources available.”
