Farmington, MI –

Stand with Trans has been awarded a $25,000 HOPE Fund Grant from The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan (CFSEM) to create a virtual Lifeline Library to help trans/nonbinary youth, families and allies find reliable information including medical, social, mental health, and legal resources. The Lifeline Library will also help trans youth learn how to combat misinformation surrounding transgender identities.

A study by the National Institute of Health to better understand online resources found that there is a significant need for reliable trustworthy content online. The importance of the virtual community to support both youth and caregivers, and the challenge of navigating misinformation is often faced by transgender youth as they navigate online resources. In an era of extreme polarization online, there is a great deal of misinformation and disinformation online, which has allowed a wave of anti-trans legislation to be introduced in state legislatures across the country, including Michigan.

“This project is incredibly important. Ultimately, it will mean easier access to resource links and information regarding every aspect of the trans/nonbinary journey from hormones to hair removal, from clothing to therapy, and so much more. We are grateful to the HOPE fund and the CFSEM for recognizing the need in the community for expanded access to resources that will simplify the search for many folks,” said Stand with Trans Executive Director, Roz Keith.
