Stand with Trans Expands, Adds In-Person Trans Men’s Support Group 

New support group provides support to ages 18+ 

Farmington, MI – Stand with Trans is launching a new support group for trans masculine identified young adults (ages 18+) in Metro Detroit.

“When you don’t know anybody like you, it’s easy to feel misunderstood and alone in the world. That, on top of struggling with the unique challenges that come along with being transgender, can make it hard to find adequate support,” said support group co-facilitator, Finn L. “The Trans Male support group strives to fill in those gaps in the form of connection. Creating a space exclusively for trans men gives our community the ability to confide in and support each other in ways that nobody else is able.”

Affirming gender identity reduces risk of self-harm, suicidality, and depression, according to research performed by The Trevor Project (2020). A significant part of gender affirming healthcare is having a supportive network, which Stand with Trans seeks to provide with the new support group. 

“There is a massive demand for more trans masc support groups in the Metro Detroit area. With the help of Affirmations, this new 18+ trans masc group will give a space for so many trans masc identifying folks to connect with peers and learn more about some of the resources available in the area,” said Anika Lusk, support group coordinator for Stand with Trans.

The support group meets at Affirmations in Ferndale, MI, on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, starting February 16. The group is free. Learn more at https://standwithtrans.org/support-groups.
