The Psychology Today therapist finder allows you to narrow your search further to help you find a match that will work for you by filtering which providers will take your insurance, provider gender and specialties, treatment approaches, and more. When calling to get started with a new therapist, it’s always best to confirm ahead of time that they’re in-network with your insurance. If they’re not, or you do not have insurance, it can help to ask if they have a sliding-scale for fees, or if they’re willing to take on a pro bono client.

If you’re not able to get in with a specific trans-friendly provider, it never hurts to ask if they can recommend another provider–there may be someone else at their clinic or in the community that they can refer you to. Just because a provider is not able to see you, does not mean that they’re unable to help point you in the right direction.
